If I could've gotten this for Christmas
#21
As the baby of the family by some years, I inherited my older brothers' Aurora HO slot car set. I played the heck out of it, and did all sorts of rehab and maintenance to keep the old track servicable. In those days, the cars were much slower, and the skill was in both tuning them and racing technique. The modern sets are lighting fast, very grippy, and in IMHO, no fun at all.

I still have the cars and their carrying/tune-up case in my closet of remembrance for my heirs to ponder over. I used them some with my kids, but the analog world of slot racing didn't take hold for them.

Well, I definitely remember those godawful controllers that looked like a steering wheel. I was so thrilled when I saved up enough to replace mine with a real "plunger" type.

The steering wheel just isn't good.
