I have a database in MS Works 2 on a PowerBook 180 that I need to get to my G3 iMac. When I put a floppy in the PowerBook, the computer shuts down. I can either transfer it by SCSI or AppleTalk to a Performa 6360, put it on a Zip and then put the Zip onto the iMac.
How do I transfer by SCSI or AppleTalk?

The HDI-30 SCSI System Cable (M2538LL/A) has 29 pins. Use that to connect the Zip drive to the PB.
(or)
The HDI-30 SCSI Disk Adapter cable (M2539LL/A) has 30 pins. Use that to connect the PB to the 6360, which puts the PB into SCSI disk mode.
Or, you could connect the PB and 6360 via LocalTalk with LocalTalk adapters.
Or, you could use a SCSI-to-Ethernet adapter on the PB.
If it were me, if I still owned a SCSI PB I'd have both cables on hand.

With a SCSI cable, you can use Target Disk Mode, works just like it does over FW.
What about e-mailing it?

The PB180 won't connect. I had one of those SCSI adapter things that hooks to the back of the PB180, but can't find it. I'm going to try the printer cable route.

I've never heard this one before, Mr645. Have you done this yourself (or actually seen it done)?

SCSI Disk mode, is what it's called. The name changed to Target Disk Mode when Macs went Firewire. But whatever --- just go the printer cable route; I'd neglected that one because it requires setting up a network.
The way SCSI Disk mode works --- remember, you'd need that 30-pin cable, not the 29-pin one --- is you shut down both Macs and hook them up. Boot the PB, then the 6360. The PB only shows a SCSI symbol on its screen; the desktop Mac will have the PB's hard disk on its desktop. Pretty slick! Today's Firewire Target Disk mode works the same way.

Not only does it work, but the Powerbooks came with a utility to assign a SCSI ID to them before botting up in Target Disk Mode.
