More Truth Social follies
#1
So, last year, TS had $4M in revenues (about the same as a typical, single McDonald’s restaurant), but managed to lose $58M.

Where did all that money go?

This is Trump: of course it went to him first, then lawyers, and his buddies. For instance,

Devin Nunes, Trump Media’s chief executive and president, received 115,000 shares, worth about $4.6 million. He was paid a $750,000 salary last year that increased to $1 million this year.

Nunes…also will receive a $600,000 lump-sum “retention bonus” this month. A bonus agreement signed by Nunes said the money was designed to help “ensure the continuity” of Trump Media’s business.

Because it’s been doing so well! Don’t want anything to threaten that continuity!

More gory details at the WaPo: (gift link).

But just in case things don’t go so well with TS and their ilk, Gym Jordan has preemptively attacked.

Jim Jordan Demands Major Ad Companies Explain Why They Won’t Advertise On Truth Social

Can you think of a reason? :RollingEyesSmiley5:

In the wake of Donald Trump’s Truth Social going public and revealing that it’s only earning around $1 million/quarter (i.e., a few hundred thousand dollars per month) because no one but scammers want to advertise on a small platform full of very clueless people, Jordan is pretending that it violates the law for big ad firms to not buy ads on sites dominated by conspiracy theorists and grifters.

He sent out letters to some of the largest advertisers, accusing them of antitrust violations for merely pointing out that for the sake of brand safety, companies should think carefully before putting their ads on sites frequented by conspiracy theory nutjobs.

O.M.G.

Trumpers’ idea of freedom is for everyone to do what benefits them and their own Orange God the most...and if for whatever reason, people and companies don’t, it must be a conspiracy and those complicit in not pushing their world view must be punished. Free market! Yeah!

Oddly enough, it turns out that

…most people are actually turned off by conspiracy theory nutjobs and get a negative impression of advertisers who cater to them.

Shocking, I know

… Advertising companies speaking up and suggesting “hey, maybe we shouldn’t help fund websites pushing fascist ideology, or pushing the drinking of bleach as a healthcare solution” are not engaging in antitrust activity. They’re just responding with common sense to the kind of nonsense coming out of the House these days.

So Jordan has sent a letter to Proctor and Gamble’s CEO (and others) demanding (and I quote):

All documents and communications referring or relating to conservative media outlets, including Fox News, Daily Wire, and Breitbart;

All documents and communications referring or relating to advertising, so-called misinformation, so-called harmful content, or disfavored content on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and changes to X following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the company;

All documents and communications referring or relating to advertising, so-called misinformation, so-called harmful content, or disfavored content on Joe Rogan’s podcast;

…and so on, all the way back to 2019, when the world was perfect.

This Star Chamber stuff from their most extreme members is just what happens when Republicans are given even a one-seat majority in the House.

That’s what’s f-ed up about the world these days.

Are these sites that P&G has done business with?

P&G should send him an official reply saying:

Warmest regards,

Congressional investigations should be intended to lead to legislation. What legislation are these guys thinking about - making it illegal to not advertise on platforms that spew loony and dangerous crap?
