Anybody use Apple's Backup? Scheduling issues!
#1
I've had Backup scheduled to back up to an external Firewire drive every night at 10:30 pm. It would run automatically some nights if my computer was awake at that time, but I know there have been occasions where the computer has been up and running and Backup did not run. My last automatic incremental backup happend on the 27th.

So last Thursday the 1st I created a new plan to run every morning at 6:15 am. I set Energy Saver to wake the computer at 6:00 am (the computer sleeps after 1:40, put the hard disk to sleep is checked), and restarted. Sure enough, since then, no backups. I did a full backup manually on Saturday.

Any ideas on what's happening here? I know others have had issues with scheduled backups not running. Backup will launch later in the day and start a backup which is a bit annoying. What's most annoying is how this reminds me of my struggles with Retrospect!

Is that in Console? There's no error log in Backup that I can see. If it's in Console, what should I be looking for? I don't see any obvious errors that correspond to the time Backup is supposed to run. I do see system wakes & wake events with a 6:00 time.

Don't spin down the HD.

Hi Ken,

But if Energy Saver awakens the computer 15 minutes before the scheduled backup, the HD should be up and running, right? But I'll try that anyway. I thought it was preferable to let the HD spin down at sleep.

Thanks -

I used to have this problem with Apple Backup but since I changed the settings to never spin down the HDs I have not had any problems with Backup.
