As a practical matter, insular communities founded on a narrow demographic, be it religious/ethnic/language/socioeconomic don't always assimilate well into the larger community. The Melting Pot requires mixing. This is not to say people should be turned out of their homes. I'm just pointing out that policies to limit enclaves are not always borne out of racism.

Sure they are. BUT, they're not naturally that way. People are being brainwashed and pitted against one another by powerfully manipulative "entities." They use the tools that transmit information back and forth to the public and spike it with material that makes everyone feel like they're being victimized by everyone else.

When people blend and interact with one another, they don't behave that way. The pandemic exacerbated it all. The less we interact with one another, the worse it becomes.

It's important to stand in lines and wait our turns. It's important to meet at marketplaces and break bread amongst one another.

The other day the celebrated chef Tyler Florence's restaurant in Union Square - San Francisco closed. It was seen as part of the continued failure of San Francisco's famed shopping district.

Every effort cities make to encourage and rehabilitate formerly bustling shopping districts are engineered to cater to the fancy and the hip. I noted that the Cheesecake Factory near the shut-down restaurant can't hardly accommodate the hoards of customers clamoring to get a seat. The wait is over an hour. Lori's Diner and Sears Fine Foods, historic every-man restaurants, nearby are bustling.

Stop trying to be cool and give the people what they want. Not what you think they want. They open up a Shake Shack and the line goes down the block.

"C'mon people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now!"

assimilation works without any outside forces.

You can't blame immigrants from keeping to themselves by staying with the people that know and understand them best. But their kids go to school and meet other kids before any of them have been indoctrinated into hating anyone. Assimilation starts with the second generation.

otoh, I've known many younger immigrants that spend all of their waking time learning english and working hard to assimilate asap. They demand that everyone in the household speak english - stuff like that.

This has been working for generations - leave it alone...

Really? I'm the only person who thought of this when I started to read the story?
