I used to always think of Northern Pike as just grown up pickerel. Way grown up. I remember as a lad, catching a whopper of a 16" Pickerel. Then seeing the cover of Outdoor life with someone holding up what looked like about a 40 pound Northern Pike.

Yet, when the market crashes, somehow 40% of the population will believe Trump when he blames “corrupt Biden policies” for it.

It's funny because when it goes down it's Biden but when it goes up, it's Trump. Well, not funny exactly. More like incredibly dimwitted.

Georgia O'Keefe, Betty Guy (of the San Francisco school) Mary Cassatt, and if we are allowed to count film (the major art of the 20th century) then there are lots, including Mary Pickford, Penny Marshall, and many more. If you count potters and musical instrument makers, I know quite a few locals, many of whom work out of the Angels Gate Cultural Center. If you are willing to include choreographers and dancers, the number would be huge -- just the number of top raters in Manhattan at Alvin Ailey and the NYC Ballet etal would be up there. And back in the old days of early film, most film editing was done by women. We might also think about actresses in film and television, who are the leading edge of art in the modern era.
Not trying to be snarky here, and I suspect that most people would treat the word "artist" to mean "painter" but I treat opera singers as among the greatest artists and there, the list is long in the past century alone. Birgit Nilsson, Maria Callas, and a substantial number of young Americans with American training. One of them is Liv Redpath, who played the title role in Lucia di Lammermore here in L.A. right after the post Covid reopening:

I am always up for recognizing the achievements of women in any form. The Five Women Artists campaign is an initiative of the National Museum of Women in the Arts and is focused on the visual arts. Still doesn't mean we can't talk about other areas.

I don't think that was snarky. But I do think that of all the arts, opera singers are the least affected by the patriarchy since the female parts are not only crucial but also the most beloved.
My snark is that the clip was too short. Lucia is one of my all-time favorites and I would have liked to hear the entire aria. I'm going to go look for one because this Liv Redpath is new to me and I am intrigued.

And opera isn't kabuki.
