What kind of RAM for a Celeron Laptop?
#1
A friend of mine has a Celeron 2.6ish Laptop, Compaq. He's looking to upgrade his RAM(so that it's faster for Vista). What kind of RAM does he need?

It is likely a SO-DIMM. Wink How about a model number? It could be as slow as PC2700 or as fast as PC2-4200. A 2.6 GHz Celeron would likely be a P4 based processor from mid-2006 and I would guess PC3200.

Has he already installed Vista and what is his motivation? I would not recommend anybody upgrade to it for at least another 4 months, or whenever the first Service Pack comes out.

HP has a configurator based on model/PN.
Last time I used it, it got me a s far as ram type and size, and no more info than that, but this was for a brand new just-came-out-last-week laptop This laptop wasn't even listed as an HP model elsewhere on their site..

I'm finding the desktop(completely) loads a lot faster with 2G of ram. Fewer blue swirlies.

Google the model number. You should get a ton of links telling you the RAM you need.
