My word of the day: Crenel / Crenellated
#11
"rgG—are you secretly a dungeons and dragons player?"

Nah, I just watch waaaay too many shows on the history channel and I was an art history minor. My main interest was Medieval/Gothic art & architecture. You know splayed embrasures and all that. Big Grin

I tried to teach MY kids early on what a Trebuchet was...just because it's both cool and neat to SAY.

Positively rebarbative.

Once upon a time, I taught a workshop (for young gifted kids) where we studied castles and medieval life. I found out that their dictionary skills were weak, so made lists of words from our study (crenellation, garderobe, barbican, lancet, and murder hole) to look up. Whomever found the word first got a jellybean. The kids had superb dictionary-usage skills in a few weeks. Probably some had dental cavities too...

How about defenestration for tomorrow's word?

It may readily be achieved via a crenelled battlement!
