Nano 2nd gen a lot better than Nano 1st gen?
#1
Am trying to decide which to get my 11YO for his birthday.

Refurb store has 2gb 1st gen for $99, 2nd gen $109.
4gb 1st gen $129, 2nd gen $149.

Is it worth the extra few bucks for the 2nd gen unit? A lot better? Are they a lot less fragile?

thanks...

2nd gen has longer battery life.

accessories for the 1st gen nano are cheaper, if that matters.
like those $10 MacAlly headphones that the 1G slips right into. I got a set for my wife.

My 12 y.o. has the 2nd gen 4GB, it's held up great, it's taken a little abuse but still looks good, I'm not sure how well the 1st gen plastic case would of held up. As far as accessories there are more available for the 2nd gen.

get a Speck toughskin for it - kids are rough on things!

Yes, 2G is MUCH nicer and especially better for kids since it's more scratch resistant. Spend the extra $. It's worth it.

I have bought both the 1st gen. and the 2nd gen., and I have to say that I REALLY like the 2nd gen. over the 1st. It feels more durable, the display is brighter, and it sits very nicely in the palm of my hand. Neither of these were purchased for me, but rather as gifts. The Nano really makes me consider selling my full size 30GB iPod Photo.

As far as a case goes, I would highly recommend the Agent 18 Nanoshield. They sell them at Target for $20.

I finally broke down and bought my first iPod, a referb 8GB 2nd Gen. I think it's the perfect iPod for just music. Aluminum, thats what sold me, that and it being solid state.

Cheers!
