How much should I pay for this Mac Mini? 1.66 Core Duo, 1 GB, 60 GB, BT/AP
#1
Hi, I posted a Wanted ad on local CL and I got this offer. I could try to check some prices on eBay, but I cannot access eBay from work. Also, any particular good or bad points about this model? I know it is not Core2 Duo, but hey, I don't need the fastest.

What do you think??? good or bad deal? here it is:

If you are still interested in buying a Mac mini for
your server, I am looking to sell one. It is almost
one year old, 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo, 1GB ram, 60GB
HD, bluetooth and airport extreme. Fully loaded when
bought, rarely used for multimedia presentations and
in like new condition. Asking for $450.
Since it is almost out of the 1 year warranty it came
with, and you are interested in the extended warranty
I can get it for another $50, for $500.

$399 TOPS

How much do you want to pay, though? (I have one...only a few weeks old right out of the box)

There's one in the specials section of the apple store on-line for $429, with 512 mbs.
If the one you saw is in good shape the extra 512 mbs sounds like a deal.

Only with the App;e Store you get the full one year warranty.

aren't these the same/similar to the apple refurbs going for just over $450? If that's the case, I'd go for the refurb in a heartbeat. Getting a one-year old computer from an unknown seller vs. new computer from apple is a no-brainer for me.

FYI... while no guaranty that you get the same silent upgrade, I recently ordered the 1.83Ghz mac Mini refurb 80GB HD/512MB Ram/ AP/BT and Superdrive for $469.

When it arrived it came with 1 GB of RAM installed. This seems not to be an uncommon silent upgrade for these machines, though by no means a certainty.

Given the price of the warranty covered refurb minis in the Apple Store, I would pay no more than $300 for that model... assuming I needed one.

I agree that the unknown of it being used for a year detracts some value from it... though in all likelihood it is probably fine.

I also bought a 1.83 mini refurb which came with 1 GB RAM.

I'd offer $375 on that guys mini. Otherwise just buy Apple. They're in stock right now.

I wouldn't buy it at any price without $100 of the lowest refurb price.

Now -- if it were a CLASSIC model, like my G4, 1.42GHz, with Combo Drive, 1GB of RAM, 32MB video card and 4200 RPM 80GB drive (no BT/AP), then clearly, this model would have a premium attached.

Add to that the Dual Ethernet Airport injury (Apple to Apple) which when wired directly, appears to have taken out the ethernet permanently, then you have the perfect example of what is a FireWire 400mbit bandwidth ethernet solution - for which at $500 is not only a BARGAIN, but I'd throw in the Indigo iMac which feeds it the ethernet (since the cable has to plug into the iMac from modem).

For $575, you get the Dual Ethernet Airport Base Station too!

You want to have the FIRST in a series, THIS is where you get it, baby!!! RIGHT HERE!
