Help me identify my NewerTech power cable
#1
My NewerTech USB 2.0 Universal Drive Adapter has apparently died. In seems to have ceased functioning while I was running a data recovery utility. No problem, I got the adapter shortly before the end of 2007 and so I'm still covered by warranty.

I just want to make sure I didn't do anything improper to cause the early failure. I swapped drives (and connection types, first drive was SATA and the second was PATA), tried different outlets in my surge protector, and a different surge protector (which was connected to a different circuit). The power adapter doesn't seem to be providing any juice. The drives themselves seem fine. Only thing I could think of is that maybe I accidentally switched the power cable, not the brick of course which is unique, but long shot here--just maybe since the power cable to one of my other drives is similar, I swapped cables??? I'm pretty sure this didn't happen, but I hate to be THAT customer who returns something that was broken from his own stupidity.

So does anyone have a NewerTech USB 2.0 Universal Drive Adapter and could either hit me with some identifying characteristics of the power cable or post a photo of the power cable. I'm also sending an email to customer service, but I figure the forum may be able to respond faster. Thanks.

Is it this kit:

The power cable in that kit appears to be a standard IEC 3 pin power cord. You can use any IEC power cord you have lying around, shouldn't make a difference (unless the cord itself is bad).

Thanks for the reply Gareth. That picture must have been from an old unit. My cable has two holes, sort of an hourglass shape. Also it only has two prongs, it's not a grounded three prong unit.

Oh, and thanks for providing a link, I forgot in my haste to make a very important meeting. Just now got a chance to even read your reply.

That sounds like another very generic power cord. Shouldn't matter where it came from, I swap those cables around devices all the time.

yeah, that is a generic cord. there is a polarized version, where on side is flat, like a D, and the other side is rounded.
