Going to be a long time before they resolve their female shortage issue. I still don't understand why they keep exporting women when they have a burgeoning shortage.

This is a publicity stunt to help the Olympics. Will be rescinded. That's what totalitarian governments are all about. Controlling all aspects of life.

China has been relaxing the "one child" policy for years. The only news in this press release is that they might scrap it altogether. Now that they have most couples not wanting more than 2, with possibly 3 children for some, they can see their population growth leveling off in a few decades. The "one child" policy was in part a reaction to the massive growth caused by Mao encouraging families to have many children in the '50's and early '60's.

They are relaxing this for the Olympics and to get the female numbers higher. The desertion rate for babies that are female is staggering and a national embarrassment that will be pointed out when media travel to China for the games. It will be interesting how many get arrested for wandering off the sports path.
