Anybody see Rev. Jeremiah Wright on Moyer?

I guess you have never suffered through racism.
And you have? Was there 'suffering" associated with the word that offended you? Did it hurt your feelings? Sorry, you don't have the chops.
I feel for you though, making the usual joke about other people.

REVEREND WRIGHT: Unfortunately, most churches now are "status quo." And so that, to the extent that they're not trying to feed the poor, they're not trying to hook up jobs and people, they're not concerned about the lowest, the least, the left out. They're not concerned about the youth, they're concerned about "Let me come here on a Sunday, hear something that tells me I'm ok, and I'm going to back to where I've been going. Don't rock the boat…"

BGnR's point just dissolved before our very eyes. Probably a good thing. Hanging a 'racist' charge on a thread that thin, it was precarious anyway.

What he probably--understandably--didn't know is that "lesser' and "least" are understood and accepted as valid and racially neutral expressions to describe disadvantaged (the least advantaged) members of society, with roots in the New Testament:

Matthew 25:40

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

Either that, or Jesus was a politically incorrect racist.

[quote BigGuynRusty][quote lafinfil]As he was pointing out, we (the USA) had in the past treated many of it's lesser poorly. "Lesser"??
Racist statement.
As you can see, most folks don't realize when they are making racist/hatred statements.

Geezo - I take a few days off and all hell breaks loose and I'm a "racist"

Thanks to $tevie for pulling out the original quote. I obviously was not quoting verbatim.
Also thanks to guitarist for pointing out the obvious usage of a variation of the word least.

Perhaps "lesser" was an incorrect tense on the word "less" - to be Biblically more accurate
I should have used the word "least" although some versiona of the Bible uses "lesser"

"And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me
receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.
-Luke 9:48 (King James translation - the version I grew up with)

There are also more "modern" translations of this verse that use "lesser"

And said to them: Whosoever shall receive this child in my name, receiveth me;
and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth him that sent me. For he that is the lesser among you all, he is the greater.
-Douay-Rheims Bible (an English/Catholic Bible)

Oh and this one uses " lowliest" - how scandalous is that !

"and said to them, "Whoever for my sake receives this little child, receives me; and whoever receives me,
receives Him who sent me. For the lowliest among you all--he is the greatest."
-Weymouth New Testament (modern speech Bible)

To paraphrase BGnR - As you can see, most folks don't realize when they are making stupid statements
They are the same type of people that are unable to acknowledge that they themselves are wrong
in falsely calling someone a racist.

Oh it gets worse - of Jesus' twelve apostles there were two named james

James (son of Zebedee and older brother of John) also called "James the Greater" while
James (son of Alphaeus) also called "James the Lesser"

LOL!
You truly believe that The Bible was written by Jesus, or was "His Words"??
Talk about being delusional!

Can you show me where I wrote that I did ? I can't seem to find that in my post.

I just quoted what is written there and several translations. I made no statement about my particular belief or lack of.

You on the other hand change the subject when called on being wrong

Want to try again ?

I must admit I admire BGnR's ability to double the life of a thread with a 10-second post.

Anyways, all that lesser biblical racist stuff aside, I saw some more video of Wright and I have to say: my previous favorable impression of him has vaporized.
