iMac bluetooth module

I have an intel iMac 17" that did not come with Bluetooth. Is there a way to install a factory grade bluetooth module internally?

I know there are USB modules, do they show the BT icon at the top?

Do those work with the Apple USB KB and mouse? I bought D-Links for a lot more even AR because there was some question whether other brands would work.

Are you positive you don't have it built in? According to , even the first Intel iMac had it. Maybe you've got an Educational version? Have you gone to your sys prefs to turn it on? I don't think the icon in the menu bar is the default setting.

There was one, the 17" 1.83 C2D that, at the time, was the low end model, a couple of revs. ago. I have one of those, and I'm almost positive that it doesn't have bluetooth.

I hate the D-Links for one reason, they ride Apple's coat tails (Apple sold D-Link before building in their own) and keep their prices artificially high, extremely high.
In fact, the most problems I have with BT is with D-Link dongles.

Not the lowest cost, but it is the smallest.
Not a big deal with an iMac though.
If you want to spend more money, I will buy the low cost BT dongle, you send me 80 bucks and I will send you the dongle.

Well, D-Link was high, but not ALL that high - 19.95 AR. It seems I read a couple reviews on other dongles that said they didn't work with the Apple KBs/mice. Not wanting to take a chance, I went with the D-Links and have no problems. OTOH, I wanted to try out my wireless MM at work on a TP, and, using the D-Link, couldn't connect. But then, that's Windblows - or - it could be as you stated above.

Did you flash the D-Link with Apple's firmware? That was one of the big selling points when they were first released. If you did the flash, the bluetooth module will no longer work with anything other than a Mac.

Yes the one I have was the initial Intel Mac that didnt come with BT. Its my little girl's computer. After seeing mine, she wanted an Apple wireless mouse....had been asking for it for a year. I finally broke down but then forgot about her's not having BT.

It seems I recall there was some way to install factory BT in those machines.

Any ideas?
