After you have watched both series of Life on Mars you can then watch the next phase called Ashes to Ashes. It still has DCI Gene Hunt and his two idiotic detectives but this time it's set in 1980 and a female detective has transported back. Just as good in my opinion.

I like DCI Gene Hunt. I was kind of surprised at British season length. I've got both seasons of LOM and they are both only 8 episodes. Of course then there's Canadian series Slings and Arrows (that we also enjoyed) which was only 6 episodes!
