I never understood the "going to work when you feel like death warmed over" thing. My wife does this and it annoys me to no end! Our lives aren't like the movies where you miss a day of work and the "Boss" decides you aren't dedicated enough and gives the other guy the "big promotion".

"But I have a meeting!"

Cancel it, I say. No one likes damn meetings anyway! It annoys me as well. However, now aday not everyone has sick days. I myself included. It's a tough one when it's "No work. No pay".

Lux,

Unfortunately, it can be a lesser of two evils situation where going to work is the better of the options available to them. Many people go to work despite feeling like hell for a variety of reasons. For example, some cannot afford to take the time off and/or they've already used up all of their alloted sick/holiday/vacation/etc hours. Deadlines come to mind as well. I'm just glad Paul can take the time off because it is truly the best choice.

Paul - Feel better! And, remember, this is just the right time to enjoy lots of feel good food, i.e. jello, hello water, pudding, etc! Smile

I feel the same way you do but it's rather hard to do that when you have a boss that seems to passive aggressively frown on taking a sick day.

Boss says, "I never use sick days. I have to be REALLY sick before I'll stay home."

& then when you take maybe 2-3 sick days a year says, "gee, you seem to get sick a lot."

I prefer to stay home when I'm ill for 2 reasons - 1. To avoid spreading the cold or whatever around and 2. If I'm not feeling well, how can I do decent work? Honestly - if someone's sick & feeling like they should crawl back into bed for a few days, how productive are they gonna be sitting at a desk, doped up on the latest cold meds?

I generally avoid taking sick days for colds, flu, etc... (OK, depends on how bad a flu...).

I can usually avoid direct interaction with people at work if I need to.... thanks largely to Apple Remote Desktop.

I don't have enough time as it IS to get everything done, so taking a sick day just puts me further behind.

How my boss feels about sick days is irrelevant to me.. I have "X" sick days, and if I need them, I will take them. Period.

In addition to not wanting to get further behind, Sure, I could stay home and be sick... sit at my desk in front of my computer feeling lousy. Or, I can be at work, sitting at my desk (with a more comfortable chair) at my computer feeling lousy.

Finally; I'd rather "reserve" my sick days in case I get REALLY sick/injured...
So I've got a sore throat (a REALLY sore one, but that's beside the point), as long as I can avoid spreading it at school, and I can get my work done, why should I use a sick day I may need for a bad flu where I'm going to be down for 3-4 days?
