Got Cats? Recommend a new clay-based litter for me? (Fresh Step Sucks)

Re: all of the scooping/clumping litter recommendations... When I say that my cat scatters it, I mean that she literally kick up huge swaths of it out of the covered litterbox and way past the collection-mat that I keep in front of the litterbox.

She then spreads it out all over my carpeted floors.

It seems to be a matter of particle-size. The sandy clumping stuff encourages her to dig and scatter instead of doing her thing and getting out.

"World's Greatest Cat Litter" is supposedly made with whole kernel corn. Are the grains sized close to clay litter or is it more like sand?

Mine do the same thing (I have 4). Fortunately their boxes are in the garage. Sometimes it looks more like a sandbox out there.

Evidence that bentonite litter is dangerous seems to be lacking. I wouldn't use it with very smalll kittens, on the chance that they might step in a wet spot, get litter stuck to their feet, and ingest it when cleaning their feet. But I've never had a problem with an adult cat doing that.

The Arm&Hammer MULTICAT is decent. It clumps well, neutralizes odor decently for three weeks using about 20lbs of litter (with removal of waste 3 times a week).

DO NOT BUY the Arm&Hammer ODOR DETECTION variety. It does not work, and smells horrible.

There's a "Multiple Cat" version that has great smell control and was highly recommended by Precious' vet.

Precious says, "I won't go potty on anything else!"

It looks like "World's Greatest Cat Litter" is out of the running. I refuse to pay $13 dollars for 3.5lbs of cat litter and anyway it looks like the grains are too fine for my cat's litterbox due to the aforementioned scatter problem.

It looks like my choices for products with odor-absorption additives involve silica gel (really just absorbs moisture) or baking soda. My cats have never liked baking soda litter as it sticks to the pads of their feet.

For now I've decided to go with Jimmypoo's idea about adding my own activated carbon. I'm trying store-brand clay cat litter with the addition of about a cup full of activated carbon added to it. Given the selection at Petsmart, I'm probably going to go with Johnny Cat unless something else turns up with decent ammonia-neutralizing qualities.

You can get World's Best in bigger bags, especially if you order from a source such as petfooddirect.com. Some of my clients use it. It seems to last quite a while. It scatters some, but a mat in front of the box would reduce some of that tracking. And it is flushable.
