DVD (images) burned on PC shows up blank on Macs
#1
Client has sent me two different DVD-Rs with images on them. Both, upon insertion say "You have inserted a blank dvd, what do you wish to do?" or something like that.

Tried on 3 different machines (G4, G5, Intel), and 4 different drives, all able to read DVDs.

Looking at the dvd itself, there appears to be data burned into it but what gives?

I've had that happen before.
I believe I solved it by mounting them on a Windows PC.

Something having to do with the disc not being finalized, or wotevs.

sometimes PC's burn discs in an un-closed session. It's basically a format that allows for repeated writes to do the disc (much like a hard drive or usb flash drive), but the resulting discs are less compatible with other computers as a result. The discs need to be "finalized" or closed in order to be fully compatible with other systems.

Do you have a windows box to try the disc on? That may allow you to read the discs, although you may still need whatever software they used to burn the discs.

When prompted, "You have inserted a blank dvd, what do you wish to do?" choose ignore. In Disk Utility verify that it cannot see any filesystems on the disc - if it can, simply select and mount those.

Gabester– I ignored and opend disk utility.
Nothing. and under partition scheme it says 'Unformatted'

Unfortunately, my client is fairly computer illiterate.
