Amazon/UPS Tracking
#1
anyone ever NOT be able to track a package.

i bought a monitor from amazon saturday. sunday i got a shipping notice. as of now, the tracking number is still not showing up in UPS's system.

an inquiry into Amazon brought this response:

>Also, in order to speed delivery, UPS does not location scan all of
their shipments, which occasionally limits the amount of tracking
data. When shipping volume is high, packages are processed in bulk,
and the first time a package is scanned may be upon arrival at a
regional hub near the destination. In some cases, tracking
information may not appear until the package has been delivered.<

Amazon also gave me a $20 gift coupon for my trouble tracking the shipment. now, if it's not Amazon's fault it's pretty generous of them to do that so i'm not complaining. i just have never had this happen before.

does their explanation sound real or bogus?

Have you tried taking the tracking # directly to the UPS website and track it there?

ONce amazon tracking was down for days but I was able to track it directly and it usually is more accurate/up-to-date also. . .

Yes- I have had this happen with Amazon and just had it happen at work.

A vendor shipped me some product and UPS showed it had been picked up but no info beyond that. I called UPS, the shipper called UPS- no info. This went on for 2 days and then the package arrived (a day earlier than I expected it). It didn't show on the UPS website until a day AFTER I received it.

Not to offer false reassurance, but all hope is not lost!

yep. i rarely track through amazon's site.

thank dmann. i have a new (refreshed)mac mini sitting on my desk forlornly waiting for its LCD monitor. i'm just trying to figure out if i'm going to get to hook it up and ooh-ahh before i got out of town saturday.
(and if i need to make other delivery arrangements if i'm going to be gone.)

Yes, through Amazon. No gift certificate for my troubles trying to track it down, or the back & forth with customer service reps who were apparently too busy to actually read my email. It wasn't the tracking number hiccup that got my blood boiling, but how they mishandled my inquiries trying to straighten the mess out.

I've been a loyal customer of Amazon since long before they were a household word. I've had three problems with their service, all within the last six weeks. I hope it's a fluke, not a trend.

I recently had the same problem with my iLife 06 purchase.
They gave me $5 gift certificate for my troubles.

I had ordered Firefly season one (only?) per Newtons deal tip recently, but canceled the order after 6 days and it hadn't shipped yet.
WTF is up with Amazon?

wednesday morning. still not tracking.

amazon sent me an 'it shipped'notice sunday which means i can't cancel the order. the monitor is currently $20 less than this weekend when i bought it. maybe that's why they sent me the gift coupon?

the good news: the monitor was delivered 2:50pm today even though it still wasn't tracking this morning.

the bad news: i'm out of town for today and they didn't send it signature required.

hopefully a friend can swing by and take it inside my house.

i'll check into the price drop. it was $309 w/$20 rebate on saturday. monday it went to $299 w/$30 rebate.
