Network Switch Problem

Can anyone help me with my network problem? I added a D-Link Gigabit switch to my network and things start acting up.

My current setup.
Cable mobem -> D-Link router -> 2 switches (LinkSys and D-Link Gigabit).

The LinkSys is connected to the router with a straight cable via uplink port on Linksys. The D-Link Gigabit is also connected with a straight cable. D-Link does not have a separate uplink port. Any computers connected to the Gigabit switch and the router see Internet and network printers, but not the ones on the LinkSys. It worked well before I added the Gigabit. It can be coincident.

My question. Is there a rule on how to setup multiple switches and make any computer talk to each other on either switch?

there shouldn't be anything to setup. most switches in small setups don't even have settings.

oh. I think you need a crossover cable to get your second switch attached to that router.

I would say you should not have the router connected to the Linksys through the uplink port.

But, what you should be doing is just connect the router to one switch, preferably the faster one, then connect the other switch (linksys) to the first switch. In this way computers connected to either switch will be part of the same network and will not have to navigate through the router to talk with each other, and will still share the same internet connection.

As far as connecting switches in this configuration, you should connect the uplink port from the Linksys to any port on the D-link.

Thank everyone for the help. I ended up turning everything off and restarted the entire network, then everything came back to normal. I don't know why, but it works now.
