This is Arkansas, so I doubt if they have the latest and greatest. In the olden days when I had a detector, it would go off if the cop radared another driver in the area. I would think that would alert me over half the time.

FWIW this site
http://www.radartest.com/ provides good testing of the available detectors. But as testcase pointed out, Lidar only lights up when they pull the trigger...which is usually too late to be useful. (The one exception I have found is in freeway driving where you might be bathed in the laser when they shoot someone else.)

Spend the big money. Valentine One.
Save the big money. Pay attention, be actively looking for and comply with posted signs and basic speed laws where you travel.
I had a detector years ago, and it was a lot of fun. I don't speed at all on surface streets, but I have driven briskly on freeways.
There may be pockets in the country run by people like Boss Hogg, and ECM may be necessary. Or fruitless.
But unless the speed limit signs are remote controlled or purposely hidden, one should be able to find them if in active search mode.

I have seen this happen. Cases like this you are better off with a detector.
