Time Warner Cable Caps Metered Broadband Overage Fees At $75
$75 for 10mbps/1mbps and a limit of 100 GB/mo., and then a overage charge capped at $75.

Wow. I am dreading to see how much AT&T wants to raise my bill above my current $12 service once they put in hard caps.

I have Verizon DSL and I don't download a lot of stuff, but I have 2 VOIP lines that I use a lot and then some YouTube once in a while, maybe a NetFlix here and there and I wonder how much use

For $140, Comcast has an "Extreme" tier of DOCSIS 3 service making its way into major cities with 50Mbps/10Mbps speeds and a 250GB cap that doesn't incur extra fees. Instead, hitting the cap repeatedly may cause them to cut off your service.

'Just pointing it out for contrast.

The network tab of activity monitor will tell you how much you've used since your last restart.

The VOIP will of course not show up here, but it's pretty low bandwidth service. A standard uncompressed telephone circuit is sampled at 8 Khz, and the sample size is 8 bits for a data rate of 64 kb/s. I'd guess that VOIP is less than that.

Well, let's take some action and tell Congress we're not happy. It takes less than a minute: Freepress

Imagine if video streaming was your only means of communication... well best means of communication. This is the case with many Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals. They use a Video Relay Operator to effectively communicate with the world. Making video streaming calls can max out that cap. Reminds me of 20 hours a month at AOL back in the days... Bleech!

Is there any way to measure at the cable modem how much data you are using?

I ask because Activity Monitor shows 140GB for the past 24 days for me, BUT that has to include backups since I use a time capsule, and doesn't include Netflix streaming to my xbox at all....

Thinking I would probably be stuck with the full $75 overage fines if they switch in my area.... I already can't afford the "standard" teir of cable, if I do this I won't be able to afford the internet either, maybe a 3G card for my MBP, which would end up being cheaper!!! (but oh so slow) bastards!
