I'm not sure I get it - there's no cables or cords to connect this antenna, so how does it work? Induction?

'QuickerTek's new PowerBook Connect combines a more powerful 2dBi antenna than came in your stock PowerBook, with a new design that does not require installation inside the PowerBook. You don't have to open the computer and work with the innards. It simply attaches to the PowerBook case, quickly and easily. And let's say that down the road you want even more power, you can add one of QuickerTek's antennas for even greater wireless performance - to connect to networks up to a mile away!"

This must be a sort of repeater, but I'm thinking this is not something you want to use in your lap, unless you're wearing that lead-lined cup.

Either needs an ac adapter or it drains power from your internal battery.

Either way sounds like it's not ready for prime time for real world wireless use.

"MacBook Pro Connect
has optional internal battery
$229.95 USD"

Smalldog review:
"... In addition the Connect works with multiple computers, so, lets say you had an ad hoc meeting in the far corner of the office, or even outside on a picnic table, everyone at the meeting could enjoy the same strong signal.

Lastly, the Connect also includes an ethernet RJ45 port on it, so that you can connect a machine to the wireless network which has no wireless capability!

The connect is powered either with a battery, an AC Adapter, or via USB."

This is basically an Airport Express... A wireless bridge with a hgih gain antenna that then transmits right next to your laptop,
