Halp with iPod problem
#1
Coworker's 15-gig 3-g iPod.
Battery life driopped to 5 minutes quite a while ago and she put it aside.
I talked her into ordering a battery for it (one of those Newer Tech jobs from OWC with the useless tools) and I installed it last week. She took it home to charge it and found it doesn't respond to any of the face buttons.
Playing with the hold switch was getting it to power up and display a menu screen, but still no response to controls.
Anyone experienced this? Something you could suggest I try?
Thanks.

Try it in diagnostic mode.

Carm, it's not responding to the buttons at all, none of that helps.
It will connect to the computer and the hard drive contsnts and screen are definitely healthy, the battery's fully charged . . . the only control it will respond to is the hold button, which makes the lock symbol pop on and off the display.

Did you disconnect/damage something when installing the battery? Take it apart and inspect it closely- test the cables with ohm/multimeter. Especially the cable to the wheel/buttons.
That would be my second guess.

There is no visible or accessible cable to the wheel and buttons, and the circuitboard protects all that-- thus unlikely I could have done anything to it . . .
