I watched most of that one post that so many said brought tears to their eyes and found her singing to be quite.. well good for an amateur, but unspectacular overall.

I really don't see what all the hoopla is all about.

why has the whole world gone gagga over this?

No kidding. I doubt many of the people going gaga over her right now will actually spend money on a whole album's worth of her style of singing.

Actually, all those people who already love musicals, etc., will. Hers is an example of a voice with nothing in the way. Quite rare these days.

Like hal said, her voice isn't that spectacular. It's more the shock of seeing it come from someone who looks like her. Kind of like when Jim Nabors would sing on Gomer Pyle.

Jim Nabors shock was that his speaking voice did not match his singing voice in tonality. Susan's does.

Her tone is spectacular. What doesn't quite match is her music knowledge. It sounds like she hasn't been exposed to a whole lot of depth of styles. If you listen to the cut of "Cry Me A River", she shows a great potential in jazz, just not a lot of experience . . . yet. But the clarity of sound is quite evident.
