Most VWs sold in the US are made in Mexico.

I had a 76 Volkswagen Rabbi.
The 't' broke off the name on one side so I had to make them all match.

What Davester said.

I have a friend who has the Passat Engine Sludge issue along with all the others named above. She is car shopping right now. She also has an oil leak, valve issues.

If you do own a Passat, or anything with that same engine, never ever use anything but full synthetic oil in it (unless you'd like to buy a new engine). There is a manufacturer extended warranty for this issue but I think a lot of Passat's are now past that warranty period (though yelling might help).

I have a 2008 R32, works great.

Except the elec issue that causes the transmission to hesitate every once in a while. Going back for 3rd time to track down

I have a 2008 Passat 4 cyl. turbo. It's my 3rd Passat - a 2002 and 2005 preceded it.

I have had no electrical (or other) problems - I've enjoyed driving all 3.

All that means is that you're one of those statistical points over on the left side of the bell curve. It doesn't mean that the Passat is a reliable car.
