OT: Gibson elecric guitar ? Humbucker vs. P90

i'm lookin into a used or new Gibson electric in the sub-$900 range, so choices are limited. some models have the P90 pickup, so i'm wondering what that sounds like compared to a regular single-coil pickup (like on a Strat) and a standard humbucker. i've owned an American Standard Strat, Gibson SG and various no-namers in the past and do prefer the sound of a real humbucker. obviously i've never played a guitar with a P90, maybe it's just one of those things where i need to try it out for myself, but any input would be appreciated. if i do end up with a guitar with a P90 i will more than likely eventually replace the P90 with a mini-humbucker (with a coil splitter possibly). i play mostly metal/grunge, blues and pop/alternative. thanks in advance.

P-90s are single coils but not really like strats. Much fuller and more raw. Great blues pickups. If you like ragged distortion or clean with a little rawness, they're great.

I happen to love them, but wouldn't use them for my only guitar. But it's a taste thing.

I think P-90's sound a little darker than a Strat PU. Kind of in-between a Srat and a Les Paul. It would not be the best choice for metal but they are pretty versatile otherwise. I have a old double cut junior with 90's and I use it quite a bit.
