Better day today
#1
Had the funeral today for my neighbor. I realize this may be contradictory to the post heading, but it really was a better day. The weather was perfect, there was a good showing, Kenneth looked so much better and peaceful at rest, it was good to see him finally free of the pain. Dorcas looked much better, she had gotten lost of rest and sounded like her old self, normal sadness of course though.

After the service, I went and mowed mom and the mom-in-law's yards, and when I got back Cory and I went over to the garden and planted a couple golden jubilee tomatoes. Dorcas came out and gave Cory and very thick book on WWII and while talking about Kenneth's time in the service my wife came over and we sat at the picnic table and talked for several hours. It was a thoroughly enjoyable time considering the circumstances.

I knew Kenneth had served in the Navy, but thought he had spent most of his time in the Alaskan seas, turns out he spent some time there but spent most of his days in the Asian-Pacific. Of the 10 or so ships he served on, 6 were sunk while he was aboard! I think after 2 or 3 I'd start to think I was a jinx! He was involved in beach landing on several of the islands, but I can't recall which ones. After some time I'm going to talk to her again about it and write down the specifics so I can do some research on it.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my good neighbor over ten years ago, and we still call the house "Oscar's House". It's great to have family, and it's really great to have great neighbors. You have had them, and so have they. I'm proud of you for finding the time each day to visit. You will always find that meaningful.

Stop by one day. We're always outside!

You were out today when I drove by, I waved but you snubbed me! Tongue

You were talking to a couple in your front yard (around 3ish), the guy you were talking to waved though. Smile
