How to configure Hotmail POP with Entourage or Mail???
#1
Does Hotmail support POP mail so you can use Apple Mail or Entourage to send and receive Mail with out using a browser?

A friend/client of mine has a Hotmail account and see received some notice about she has to now use POP for her Hotmail account (she has had the hotmail account for years and her small business is linked to it).

I tried to talk her through setting up POP account over the phone, but she didn't understand.

Is there a website with a Tutorial and PICTURES she can use to configure the account?

I did a Google search and seems that Hotmail only supports POP with paid subscriptions?

Is that true?

I cancelled my paid subscription in January when they deducted the sum from my credit card without asking me. I still have all the features. It's such a large clunky outfit I think this should work for anybody. Just cancel within thirty days.

Just a hint on ripping off Bill.

you can use hotmail with Apple's Mail using a plugin called httpmail:

I've been using it in Mail for a couple of years now, and it works great. Kind of works like IMAP (syncs mail from server to mail on your computer, if you set it up that way. It won't copy to the server from your computer, though), and doesn't require that you enable anything from the hotmail end of your account. Just type in your username/password and go!

It's been working for me with no problems--I'd highly recommend it.

email/PM me if you have any questions.

If she's had the Hotmail account for years, she was probably grandfathered into the POP system instead of paying for it, like I was. That said, in Entourage, just use the Account Set Up Assistant. It will easily walk you through adding email accounts to the program and Hotmail accounts are the easiest. Really. You can access it by doing this:

1. Go to the "Tools" menu, then choose "Accounts" near the bottom
2. It should automatically be in the "Mail" section. Click the "New" button
3. Walk through the set up assistant. There's a button on the screen with the option of setting it up manually {see below}

Just in case here's an article from Microsoft to manually configure an email address account:

"Get your e-mail account up and running" http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/en...ourage2004&type=howto&article=/mac/LIBRARY/how_to_articles/office2004/en_mailaccount.xml

I hope this helps...
