Recommend software for drawing wire layouts
#1
I am trying to find software to help me create the structured wiring maps (layout schematics for home wiring) for the Mac. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. They are relatively simple layouts (no 3D) .

I've always liked Canvas for 2-D engineering-type drawings. However it is a bit expensive these days.

What is your price range?

What computer configuration would you want to run this on?

How about TurboCAD? It's only $99.

DoodleCAD http://www.doodlebytes.com/DoodleCAD.html

QCad 2.0.5 http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25109

CADintosh - 5.3.2 http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11417

They're all ShareWare, relatively inexpensive.

Work will pay for the software, so I don't want to say price doesn't matter. For the simple task of laying out wiring diagrams, I would prefer to keep the cost under $250.

For those folks that don't have a budget, but still want to do electrical drawings, AppleWorks has a fairly well rounded Drawing module and is integrated tightly with the other modules
Word Processing
Spreadsheet
Database
Paint
Does great presentation, and page layouts.

Included free with consumer level Macs.

ConceptDraw is a Visio-like program that is available on the Mac. I haven't used it for quite a while, but it used to have a very good building plan module that did a nice job with networking, plumbing, electrical and HVAC. Lot's of other project management tools you probably don't need, but you may want to download the trial version for a test run.
