My lovely wife just *Gave up* on her iPod Touch and gave it to our daughter. She just can't get the hang of typing. That and this 'organizational' app that she's using that doesn't synch with her Macbook, so ALL entry has to be done on the Touch... grrr.
I suspect it's her fingernails that are the problem. They're somewhat long (not 7-11 clerk class, but artificial and long). It's her one personal luxury (she said it's the nails or tattoos, and I happily went with the nails).
Has anyone here had this sort of issue, and how did you solve it ? Stylus ? Is there training at the Apple Store that might help ?
Me, I use a Palm Pilot, and all heavy information entry gets done on the synched computer. I can't imagine entering all that information with graffitti. No Way !!!

I happen to think those teensy little keyboards are made for some midget. I was trying to type on my friend's iPhone last week, and it drove me batty (which isn't a long trip.) I don't think I'd necessarily blame the fingernails, because mine aren't long. The keys were just too danged tiny to be usable as far as I'm concerned.

It's the fingernails. And a stylus won't help since the touch screen on an iPod Touch is capacitive not resistive.
Best bet is to go with the tattoos. You'll get used to them after a while.

That's why I got a Mini9 for my wife and frankly I don't like the digital keyboard so no iPhone either. The iPod Touch is going on the block soon...

Sure would like an external keyboard, but after one did not surface with the bluetooth update, my hopes faded.

There are styli made for the iPhone/Touch screens. Can't remember what they're called though...

Not cheap, at $15, but not too bad either... I for one, was pretty frustrated with the 'soft' keyboard on my Touch when i first got it, but I've gotten a LOT better with time... Hopefully the stylus might help her?

If you hold your finger down on the screen the letter that your finger is on is displayed on the screen. You can then move your finger to the correct key if you did not place it properly when you touched the screen.
Kind of like, Touch... slide... release. Definitely NOT fast, but accurate and perhaps she will get a clue on how to adjust her first touch.
