visiting dad, howto for setting his Mac to allow me to manage it
#1
Hi all,

As I mentioned, I'm going to visit my dad this weekend and I would like to be able to remotely manage/view his Mac when needed when I get back. He seems to have trouble more than the average Mac user so I would like to be able to help him out.

He has Verizon as his ISP.

What would be the best way to get his 17" iMac G5 remoted for me to access it? VNC? Timbuktu Pro? Apple Remote Desktop? LogMeIn? Bosco's Screen Share? GoToMyPC?

Do I need to change anything on his modem/interface? Any firewall settings anywhere?

Thanks!

Leopard 10.5 and set up iChat---you can do a screen share---it is very easy.

Leopard on both Macs. iChat on both Macs. Set up screen sharing on both Macs. Set Security Firewall to allow all incoming. You can change that one later. There are How Tos on the Apple Discussions/iChat board.

Otherwise, Chicken of the VNC (free).

logmein.com, no firewall configuration needed.

logmein and in preferences, disable his keyboard and mouse while being remote controlled.
