Did Snow Leopard make your MBP run hotter
#1
2008 MBP (pre-unibody) 2.4 ghz/2gb ram....

Only new software I have installed is iLife 09 and of course SL.

The fans on my MBP seldom came on in Leopard.

Now they run constantly and even the touchpad is hot to the touch.

Ironically, I was just noticing that my iMac has been running cooler (about 5 to 10 degrees F) since going to Snow Leopard.

Nope - 2.2MHz C2D. If anything seems a bit cooler.

It could be Spotlight indexing, or some other process, don't assume it reflects a permanent or normal state. Many of us are finding our laptops running cooler, as Snow Leopard's improved code makes the processor load a bit lighter (or so I've read) I, too, find my MacBook Pro--also pre-unibody--is running cooler and with less need for fans.

Maybe you can open Activity Monitor, and take a peek at what's drawing the juice. I don't think it's normal, it wouldn't be working that hard unless it was hung up on a repetitive or unfinished task, or you had a screwy OS install and it needs to be reinstalled. I'd assume the former, not the latter. But check Activity Monitor, and see, so you can have some peace of mind. Your computer should NOT be working harder since updating to Snow Leopard, it should work a little less hard. Check it out.

Ditto Zoidberg et al.

Fans come on less frequently, entire machine seems cooler. running at 62* right now which is about as cool as it ever gets normally.

This model MBP though, does run the fans quite a bit when I'm working on it AND it's charging. Can be kind of annoying. But that was true in Leopard also.

You know, I must be having a bad "thinking" week, because opening Activity monitor simply didn't cross my mind.

I'll take a look and report back.

2009 17", 3.06GHz MBP, 4GB RAM. No noticeable change here. I've never heard the fan run on this and, I'll be on it 4+ hours non stop.
