I don't know anyone who is happy with their Air after the first few weeks.
That's a result of unreasonable expectations, or not knowing exactly what you need.
I only know two people who have Airs and they are *still* happy after all these months. But they really knew what they wanted and what they were getting.
Only two data points, but I'm just sayin'...

I agree. It's not intended to be a full feature computer. Lack of optical drive? I've used my optical drive in my MBP 2, maybe 3 times, in almost a year.
If you're looking for a full featured computer don't buy an Air. You'll be disappointed. If you want a small- sized , thin, light, beautiful computer for web, email, iApps and the iWork, you'll love the Air. A client of mine has an Air and she loves it. Web, email, iWork. Backs up wirelessly to a Time Capsule at home. And when all you're working on is <1MB iWork files and the like, wireless backup is easy, fast, and pretty much transparent.

I know a few happy Airheads, and similar to Rammie's data points, they knew what they were getting into and chose to dive in because of that. For some people the Air is a perfect fit, and near as I can tell, Apple assumes that a large portion of those can afford an Air premium, so it gets charged...

Then get her one--it's svelte, sexy, and stylish.
I can't believe you're even asking...

I'd get a 13" MBP w/500GB HD, lose 1.5 LBs, and have a much better performing machine.

17 months after buying a Macbook Air, it's still one of the best machines I've ever purchased. It's my wife's laptop, and she uses it a couple of hours every day browsing the web & sending email while sitting on the couch. Sometimes she puts together powerpoint presentations for work, and when we go on vacation we load a couple movies on it and take it with us.
Of course, we have a MacPro as well. I wouldn't want a Macbook Air as my only computer. The 13" MBP is a good machine, but if something happened to our current Macbook Air today I'd buy another one tomorrow.

I use all mac laptops at one time or another. Macbook air is the current machine.
Macbook air has been underwhelming.
Mine is the original line, 1.8 w/ 64GB SSD
I've used an original 1.6 w/ 80GB drive and it was a dog. Those drives are SLOW.
The 1.8 with the SSD makes it a usable machine. BUT even though I have lots of macs, external cases, adapters etc, the limitation of only 1 usb port with NOTHING ELSE is a constant nuisance to me. If you plug in a superdrive - that's it - your expansion is complete. You can even connect a printer or a card reader or ANYTHING.
I'm going to sell it off for something else after only having it for a few months.
greatful, aren't you a local? (sac, ca) - you can pm me if yer interested
