I bought an MBP and the guy gave me the software disks for the installed programs including Windows Vista, Parallels, and MS Office 2007, to name a few.
Since this is the first time I have bought a used computer, I don't know if I'm free to use this software or not. I'd like to do a clean install and get his name off the computer but don't want to lose these programs.
Can I reinstall these in my name or not?
Thanks for your advice.

As long as you have the keys for the software you should be fine.

Thanks Sam3, The keys are on the containers. One of my friends suggested I call MS and Parallels and ask, but I just don't want the bother.

If he gave you the disks and keys, you're in the clear.
If I were you, I would do a fresh clean install of the operating system (Go buy SL for $29) and do a new install of all the software. Should take a little time to install it all but that way you start from scratch and are not using someone else's info also.
If you wanted you could call the software manufacturers and re-register the software in your name, but I wouldn't bother.

I know! I know!! SL = Snow Leopard.
I knew that, just the old brain didn't do the proper recall. :banghead:
Already have SL for this MBP so now need the time to do the install.
Thanks all for the info.
