Breaking Leather News: Goodnight Huckabee
#11
Wow, I had no idea he commuted so many sentences. He does have some explaining to do. I don't really care for the comparison between neighboring states, which will all have different policies and conditions, but commuting more sentences than the previous three Arkansas governors combined is a very interesting statistic indeed and one that needs an explanation for sure.

Thanks for the info.

You're welcome. Someone brought this up on Dealmac during the primaries and I remember finding it odd that the right wasn't screaming and yelling about it. Or anyone else, for that matter.

Clemmons also believed he was Jesus and could fly, a deputy wrote, based on conversations with family members.

With arrest after arrest for violent and erratic behaviors and such clear indications of psychotic break, why wasn't this guy ever in a mental hospital?

So the Willie Horton ad was fair game after all.

Why? Do you consider this to be race baiting?

I'm watching CBS news and seeing the faces of the slain police officers is so sad. All those devastated families.

Very sad. They all left behind spouses and children. Children who will never see the joy of Dad or Mom beaming with pride at their school graduations, or of tearful happiness at their weddings.

Do you know what kind of funding we allow these days for public mental health facilities and treatment? Not much. I mean, it is sickening. My wife works in this field and every day comes home with tragic stories that break my heart (and hers). I'm not defending the guy's actions, but he was clearly, very seriously mentally ill.

As for Huckabee, I certainly don't love the gov but in fairness, he freed him when the guy was 17 and facing a 95-year prison sentence. The guy had been in jail a couple of years since then and didn't get the resources necessary for either his continued incarceration and/or medication. I haven't read of Huckabee's other activities where this is concerned. I'll have to check that out.

There is are a few good PBS Frontline specials on the mentally ill prison population in this country. They will make you think. I highly recommend watching them.

The families of the four officers who are dead will be glad to hear that billb considers this story "faux outrage".
