there are certain ways to enable that. I remember I found online the programming sequence to enable this feature on my Civic. The AC still comes on Automatically, but now I can shut it off if I want to. I think I had to turn the knobs in a certain position, turn the ignition key ON, push the AC button a number of times, turn a know, turn the ignition off. I think similar tricks work for other cars. it's similar to hacking a DVD player to be regione free.
