Google has me going in circles - help please!
#1
I was placing an online Petco order, and I noticed I'd get $5 off if I used Google checkout. Sounds good. Except I opened my Google checkout account about a year ago, so it was showing my old e-mail address. Changing that is easy, right? Maybe not, at least not for me. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong! Smile

I found the area in which I could change the address, but they told me I couldn't use my gmail account for the Google Checkout account, although I don't know why. So, I edited the account again and used my Comcast address. I got the e-mail confirming they'd received a request sent to the new address, but I had to click on a link in order for the change to be finalized. Clicking on the link took me to a Google account page. OK. And then I had to sign in to verify I was really me. But the verification didn't verify, because the e-mail address that's attached to the verification is the old one, and that account has been closed.

Does this mean I have to set up a brand new Google checkout account? Or am I overlooking something very basic and important?!

I think the easiest thing would be to set up a new GC account. When Buy.com was doing the $10 off $10 promo I had several different ones. Big Grin

just set up a new google account... when they were giving away $10 some 2-3 years ago, I think I had 30 or more, I lost track. I was buying items of around $10 from buy.com. This is how I got my family and friends 2 GB SD cards, USB sticks, Helicopter toys and other stuff at very little or no cost to me.

Thank you. But, is there a way to get around that issue of them not accepting a gmail e-mail? I hate using Comcast. Sad

I have a Gmail Google Checkout account, so I don't know why it won't work. Are you trying to set up a new one and it won't work with a Gmail address?

I got that message when I tried to change the e-mail address on the existing Google Checkout account. It just flat out doesn't want to be changed. After fiddling more, a gmail e-mail account works when I set up a new Checkout account. Fine; I give up.

I looked at my account that isn't a Gmail account and I can't see why you couldn't change it to a Gmail account, unless it was associated with another GC account already, but since that isn't the case, I have no idea why GC wants to mess with you tonight.

I'm glad that at least you were able to set up a new one to use. I got $5 off an order for Sierra Trading post the other day, so there are several sites that are doing the promo, with different minimums and expiration dates, I think.
