Finder crashes in Snow Leopard...
#1
I upgraded to SL about a week ago and the finder has been crashing. About once a day - generally when I am opening/adjusting finder windows. It's more of a nuisance than anything, but it never happened in Leopard. Any recommendations?

Really? My Snow Leopard crashes into my Finder!

Hey!

"Two great tastes in one computer crash.... Apple... Peanut Butter Cups!"

but seriously folks....

I've had almost no trouble. Certainly no system trouble. Skype doesn't want to work on a "dirty install"
(and upgrade), but the clean, "nuked/paved" partitions, all runs perfect. Skype and LightScribe were the
only victims I could find so far. I did NOT migrate apps into the upgrade. I reinstalled - and most have not
yet been addressed yet, 6 weeks later.

When I installed SL, I just went through the upgrade process. Everything I've run works fine.

A clean install would take care of it but you could also try the "Archive and Install" option.

Have you installed the most current updates (10.6.2)? I would download the Combo updater and run that from the finder and see if that clears up your problem before reinstalling SL.

nuke the finder preferences?

More than likely, something went wonky with your install or there is something left over from Leopard that is causing you Finder to crash.

Might be a good time to launch the system profiler and look at the system error logs.

I guess I'm going to wait until 10.6.3 before taking the Mini to SL. I still haven't straightened
out my WiFi connection on my MacBook with SL and it's up-to-date. SL has some really likable
features but they don't outweigh the problems I'm having. I never once had connection
problems with Leopard.

I know you all won't want to hear this, but until updates fix these problems or you do a clean install, running Sno Leo in 32-bit should fix this stuff. There are a couple of apps out there that let you switch back and forth at re-boot. One is called something like "32 or 64 bit kernel switcher."

com.apple.finder.plist ? Nuke it? Any thing to beware of?

I had that happen briefly until I updated MenuMeters.

Try selectively disabling 3rd party menu items.

I did a Clean Install and still had problems but not with the Finder.
