Tomorrow is refrigerator diagnosis day.

'Fridge and freezer both "seem" cold, but the ice cream has been soft for several days, and the ice cubes are wet and getting smaller. Frozen meat is definitely still hard.

And so while I'm sitting here reading http://samuraiappliancerepairman.com/ … and our Amana is normally a loud beast when the compressor kicks in, I realize hey, when's the last time the beast has cycled on ?? Haven't heard it.

Ah, there it goes, good. Mild paranoia. On the other hand, the compressor didn't seem to run very long?

Without digging into it yet, I'd say the evaporator fan works. I can hear it and notice air moving inside. I don't see any blockage inside the freezer or "beer compartment." It's not as if the freezer is 0 degrees and the fridge is the problem.

Tomorrow imma yank the toe cover and clean out the coils. Admittedly, that's never been done. If that doesn't get her cold I'll pull the evap cover. As I understand it, if there isn't some frost on it, I've got either a weak compressor or freon leak, and the thing will be officially beleaguered, if not buggered.

Is it a frost free? There is a small possibility that there is an ice blockage if the defrost function died. If you have a Kill-a-watt to check the power draw, it should draw over 300 W for about 10 minutes, at least once a day while the compressor is not running.

Since I know nothing about appliance repair and will be no help, I'm just going to quote out of context.

"meat is definitely still hard"

"imma yank"

You need to start off by getting a refrigerator thermometer.

I've had to replace the defrost timer circuit board (I forget the exact part name) twice in my refrigerator. once under warranty, once by myself for about $40
