I think part of the problem was that one of the key modules was broken. This caused us a lot of frustration trying to find one of the planned creations from the manual which would work properly without it. The company was supposed to send us a replacement, but never did. In their defense, when I called back a couple of months later they sent us an entire new kit. Capsela is in some ways limited, because you have to connect the modules in a specific order to get things to work. It's less free-form than something like Legos. My son might have been a little young for it at the time, but it strikes me as not quite fitting younger kids because of the structure you need to get a good result, and being too limited for older kids: the modules are large, there are too few of each type to attach them randomly, and extra parts are not readily available. I think Construx and K'nex are similar to each other. Beams vs. blocks. - W

My seven year old is a Lego nut! But one of the few other toy like items that he has gotten really into are Snap Circuits and I gotta say, they are pretty cool. It's basically a little modular electronic set that allows you to snap together connectors, resistors, speakers, switches, fans, batteries and a myriad of other components to make all sorts of cool little gadgets. Highly recommended!
