carpentry (kind of ) question
#11
edit:--oops--Yea-Like Mike said in the post right above mine.

Since my post was rendered mute---All I can say---Just use Duct Tape :-)

Another thing that will help secure the plate is to use a longer screw in the top hole so it attaches to the frame itself rather than the newly plugged hole.

Definitely use screws that are long enough to pass through the door jamb and into the framing behind it. The screws that come with strike plates are useless. A good kick to the lock cylinder will break the jamb and allow the door to be opened. Using a 2-1/2 inch screw will secure the strike plate to the frame and improving the overall security. I also replace 2 of the screws on each hinge to the frame with the same size screw.

Remember to pre-drill the holes if you are using brass screws. If you don't, they will snap. I typically use standard steel screws as they are stronger. (Pre-drilling is still worth it as it makes installation much easier.)

I would fill the old screw holes with dowels or toothpicks. I would use Gorilla Glue, but most wood glues would do.

all 3 hinges have one or two extra long screws in them.
I think the original install of the plates did too, but if not, they will soon.
