My iMate is going strong under 10.6 connecting my trusty Extended ][ to my Mac Pro.

Tried the iMate a couple of years ago to see if it would make it possible for me use my Contour Design ADB mouse. No luck: the Contour software could not "see" the mouse via the iMate as a Contour mouse.

We've got an iMate working with a Leopard-running MDD for an old Apple keyboard.

I'm tempted to try my iMates. I have both the original v1 and v2 ... remember that they made a later version, and there may be differences between them in terms of behavior under SL.

I still have an original iMate that works aok with the Apple Extended KBII I refuse to give up. Every once in a while the caps lock function reverses - but I hardly notice and just hit the caps lock to return to correct mode.

Imate doesn't need software installed and not seen any issue with any OS.

I use a compucable adb to usb converter. I have a spare in case my original one dies. I hope to live my entire life with a single keyboard and adb-usb converter!

No software for the compucable one either...

Not all devices will work. Keyboards, basic mice -- simple and will likely work. Devices that need drivers/software will likely not work with iMates and current OS X.
