I am overseas, my wife just got to the States and is trying to set up her internet at my mother's house. My brother has set up a Comcast cable modem (apparently) and my wife is trying to connect to the internet with it via ethernet. A wireless router is ordered, but not there yet.
She can't decipher all of the paperwork. I'm on a lousy dial-up connection and navigating the Comcast website for a simple how to connect guide is a pain. Can anyone give me a quick guide to configure her Mac (10.6.4) to get online? Either that, or a link to a Comcast page.
Thanks.

Here's a
link
It may be more than she needs. A call to Comcast tech support might be in order. They'll need the MAC address on the cable modem.
Oh, and if it's a Motorola Surfboard, there's a "standby" switch on the top that's easy to bump. Symptoms are that the modem will go through all lights on the front upon being plugged in and then they'll turn off.

Once the modem and internet service is setup with Comcast, then you just need to connect the Ethernet cable to the Mac, and power-cycle the Cable Modem.
The Mac just needs to be setup to use DHCP on Ethernet (it's default), so nothing would need to change.

Come to find out, they only supplied a USB cable. No wonder it didn't work! I told her to go to a store for an ethernet cable.

There's probably an ethernet cable in the box the modem came in. She might have mistaken it for a phone cord.
