Small arbor

Discount stores often carry this sort of thing, much more cheaply made. We bought something almost identical from "Big Lots" in NE Ohio for $25. Of course it was missing parts and the assembly instructions were in Chinese, but we made do.

Keep your eyes open, especially smaller stores like Ace and TrueValue that have less floor space. It is basically end of season for gardening items right now and the significant markdowns have begun. I think Menarts has 20-25% off all arbors, trellis and garden fountains and ornaments beginning this week.

I've pounded some rebar into the ground and clamped the legs to them for more support.
The legs on those little arbors are rather short .

We want to install the arbor right over the gate entrance door. Tho' we rarely get any strong wind around here we will still need to anchor and reenforce the legs. Any suggestion?

Kap, the cheapies will last about 3 years. They will rust out.

A 'simple' solution is to pound some pipes into the ground... simple EMT conduit will do- buy a ten foot section of the thin stuff that fits the arbor legs, cut it into four 2 1/2 foot sections. Pound the sections into the ground. (almost flush with the ground). Spray rustoleum into the pipes as a mild rust preventative. Put the el cheapo arbor legs into the pipes. Run a sheet metal screw through the side of the EMT pipes through the arbor pipes. Spray rustoleum on the assembly.

Done.

simple enough. However, the section we will plant the arbor is concrete. Drilling to anchor will be required.The picture shows the front leads to the duplex parking.

Well now, ( :-) ) you probably want to screw the arbor to the fence for support.
Especially if you're going to just set it atop the concrete.
Are those some new kind of California low water use morning glories that grow on concrete ?

Morning glories can get growing pretty big/tall if they get some big tubs of dirt, nutrients and water for their feet.

It would be nice to put a tub on each side of the gate and put each side of the arbor in one, but it doesn't look like you have room on the hinge(house) side of that gate.
Plus you'd gain some arbor height.
Or I'm picturing it all wrong.


edit: yeah, you'll be spraying even the not so cheap ones with some flat black paint every year, if you even bother.
