I think Kia was catering to four legged pets earlier this year...

well now you can bring fido and no one will see that he's been left in the hot car.
nothing like a black box near big windows to store your dog in
cute but a parking lot heat accident waiting to happen
fan or no

plus imagine spending $1k ?

Some people would spend more on their pets than themselves or any human.

Personally, I think that setup sucks. The big black fabric "crate" takes up too much space if you don't have a giant dog, and my dog would make short shrift of it if I left him in it and he decided that he wanted to sit in the front seat. I'd much rather see a doggy seat belt setup that was easy to use, and do you really need an expensive and bulky ramp so that your dog doesn't have to jump into the car? Oh yeah, the dog bowl...that is going to be completely full of dirt and dog hair in no time flat...why not use one of those upside down bottles with a ball valve that you see hanging on the sides of crates. Does the person who designed this even have a dog?

I think it's neat. Sure, they got the details wrong, but it's a first step. When people use it & provide feedback, they'll refine it.

Both home and automobile design is way behind in integrating pets. In the last twenty years, Americans have made a tremendous shift to keeping dogs and cats inside the house. But we still struggle with where to provide food and fresh water and where to put the litter box and how to bathe them. Look at all the flimsy add-on contraptions just to let dogs go outside to crap!

Then in the last ten years, we've started taking our pets with us when we go out. Now that our dogs are clean and groomed, why not? People buy all sorts of aftermarket accessories so they can take Fido in the car. Honda's smart to offer a package like this.

That's an interesting thought. Is there really a shift? My dog and cat have about the same inside/outside/travel with us habits as our dogs and cats had when I was a kid. Oh, and what are these "add-on contraptions just to let dogs go outside to crap" you speak of? I don't think my dog would like it if I tried to add a contraption on to him.

What Louie had to say about that contraption is not even printable.
