I have an iPod Touch 2nd gen 8GB that I hardly use so I am going to sell it. I went to eBay to see what they are going for and the prices are everywhere from $200 to $80. Of course the condition has a lot to do with it but some sellers are pushing the number of apps as selling points too so I'm totally confused as to what to ask.
I haven't downloaded any apps and use it only for music as I have an HTC Ozone that I get email on and can use it as an MP3 player. It has minor scuffing-no scratches-and I have a leather case and a screen protector for it.
How much should I ask?

Well gee, ah... no apps huh? Scuffs and scrapes too? That's too bad. Of course that really diminishes the value...but I think I could do you a favor and take it off your hands for say $25 or maybe even go as high as $35 but that would only be because we go way back and I consider you a very close friend. Don't take too long to think about it though, I've got LOTS of other offers to consider and I'd really like to help you out if I can. Just PM me when you're ready.
PS - Of course that top figure would have to include insured next day shipping.

I always find it funny that people advertise that the 'apps come with it'. Heh. that usually means that the seller has left their iTunes userid and password on the machine and is open to unexpected sales, OR has removed the personalized data... and the apps are therefore not updateable.
Dumb.

On eBay, old 15 GB 3rd gen iPods with the oversensitive touch wheel and loads of scuffs are selling for $50 and up...without cables.

I bought a mint condition 1st gen 8GB touch before Christmas for $60 from a coworker here at OWC. They wanted one with a speaker, and this was for my 13yr old - so I didn't really want a speaker

Everybody was happy. Coworker had $60 extra towards his 64GB 3G Touch he ended up with.
I'd say $100 maximum for a 2G.

go from the price of a refurb with 1-year-warranty & no fingerprints or use, and go down from there. that price is $169 (for the 3rd gen model).
there's no way i'd pay more than that for one; $150 tops.
on anandtech.com there's one for $140 shipped.
