Not only am I getting better coverage with AT&T, I'm getting better customer service as well. I called AT&T to switch plans for my iPhone (switching to 900 from 450 minutes) and the rep saw that I had about 100 minutes to last me a couple days. So she gives me 200 minutes to make sure I stay in my current plan till the next billing cycle.
Contrast that with Verizon who treat comp minutes like their own daughter's virginity.

Well of course you got good service. You were switching UP. See how you are treated going from 900 to 450.
Funny you should mention that. One time I called to switch from 450 to 900... Ok, to save money, my plan was to use the 900 minute plan one month, bank the rollover, and switch to 450 for a few months. When my rollover dropped to zero, switch back to 900 for a month and so on. Anyway, at the end of the month I was definitely going to run out of minutes so I called to switch to 900. The rep told me that due to the way prorating works, I would go over my minutes for the month. She gave me 500 minutes so I could keep my 450 plan and even though rollover minutes are not supposed to exceed monthly minutes, my rollover minutes were well above 500 at the end of the month.

Opposite experience here. ATT coverage sucked, switched to Verizon last year and life is beautiful. They've been intelligent and accomodating when I've called, very unlike AT&T. Counting the days until Trouble is on here beatching about AT&T.

Coverage varies by location. Some places verizon has more towers, some places AT&T. All cellular carriers seem to have crappy customer service in general.

I've been an AT&T customer (formerly Cingular) for over 10 years and hate them more than I hate Comcast.
I live in Chicago (in the city), have 6 towers within a 5 mile radius of me and at least 3 of them have been down for over 2 years.
I have to turn OFF 3G service when I am home, otherwise every single call I make or receive drops.
Hate them, hate them, hate them.

I'll have to send you to my local AT&T store.
There are some 'customer representatives' that actually know what they are doing and are helpful for both AT&T and Verizon. It would be nice if they actually had at least one in every store / kiosk / radio shack.
I found the best over the phone customer service with Verizon was on Sunday morning around 9AM. (before all the a-holes wake up and ruin their day, maybe ? )
