police reports

The cops in this country have little to no accountability for practically anything. Yet in their eyes the general public is accountable for everything that might have happened, or, could conceivably have happened. Think of it as: "your tax dollars at work."

I'll gently disagree with you, It entirely depends on the town or city in which you live, and the organizational ethos. Generally big city police departments are less responsive, generally due to the huge workload generated by the great unwashed public. Then again, small rural town PD's often put the truth in all those movies.

I remember getting in an accident, calling the police, and the responding officer (a multi-car high speed accident with no injuries by five disabled vehicles on an interstate highway) showed up drunk two hours after he was called, refused to fill out a report, and handed out tickets for 'littering' because our cars had left debris on the roadside when the crunched together.

It's not always the officer's fault.
The officer complete's the report, it get's turned in to a supervisor, who reads it over and signs off on it. Then it go to the records division, where it sits until it's mailed off to the state Department of Transportation.
This is why it takes a few days until you get your hands on it.
An accident is a civil matter and the state accident report isn't admissable in court here in Wisconsin.
YMMV.

Here in Austin, Texas, the officers don't assign fault anymore in most cases...that makes it a nightmare when trying to fight super-corrupt insurance companies!! Progressive SUCKS!
