Eye tv
#1
If I buy this: http://www.amazon.com/Elgato-EyeTV-DVR-c..._1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299697102&sr=8-1 Elgato EyeTV HD DVR for HD cable and satellite TV

Will I be able to record video and stream it to my 1st gen Apple TV? I'm thinking that I can record, then save to iTunes. Is that right?

Thanks.

Maybe stream was a bad choice of words. I think it would have to be synched to my Apple TV.

I don't export to itunes from eyetv, but I think it does do that for recordings. My memory is that eyetv keeps adding export presents, so should have apple tv presets as well as ipad. It exports after the recording is complete.

I don't know about streaming, that sounds more complicated. My TV is connected to my mac as a 2nd monitor so I can play live TV directly.

I'm not at home to check but I'm 99% sure there's a menu option to convert an EyeTV file to AppleTV format.

Also, from your link:
Unique dual-format capture mode

EyeTV HD has a unique dual-format capture mode that enables you to record in the iPad and iPhone formats at the same time. This feature enables super-fast exports to iTunes from EyeTV, and facilitates the streaming of live and recorded TV to an iPhone or iPad using the optional EyeTV app

Shouldn't that pretty much cover you? I don't have an AppleTV so I don't know . . .

EyeTV will convert for AppleTV and push to iTunes. The file gets copied to the iTunes library. You cannot stream from EyeTV to AppleTV.

Here's what the export dialogue looks like:

Perfect! Thanks all. I'm going to order one and get rid of my cable company DVR.

This only allows you to record ONE program at a time. Just sayin' . . . .

Only if you have a single tuner attached. The software supports having more than one attached and actively recording at a time. Some non-Elgato tuners that the EyeTV sotfware supports have two tuners built in.

I currently have two USB tuners attached to my iMac and regularly record two shows at once. The software will queue up exports and process those one at a time.

So who makes a dual tuner device?
